This gene encodes an activin A type IB receptor. Activinsare dimeric growth and differentiation factors which belong to thetransforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) superfamily ofstructurally related signaling proteins. Activins signal through aheteromeric complex of receptor serine kinases which include atleast two type I and two type II receptors. This protein is a typeI receptor which is essential for signaling. Mutations in this geneare associated with pituitary tumors. Alternate splicing results inmultiple transcript variants.
