This gene encodes a type I membrane protein that is amember of the immunoglobulin superfamily. This protein is expressedby antigen-presenting cells, and it is the ligand for two proteinsat the cell surface of T cells, CD28 antigen and cytotoxicT-lymphocyte-associated protein 4. Binding of this protein withCD28 antigen is a costimulatory signal for activation of theT-cell. Binding of this protein with cytotoxicT-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 negatively regulates T-cellactivation and diminishes the immune response. Alternative splicingresults in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms.Additional transcript variants have been described, but theirfull-length sequences have not been determined. Titration of the CD86 antibody may be required due to differences in protocols and secondary/substrate sensitivity.
A portion of amino acids 269-298 from the human protein was used as the immunogen for this CD86 antibody.
Aliquot the CD86 antibody and store frozen at -20oC or colder.Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
