Histones play a critical role in transcriptionalregulation, cell cycle progression, and developmental events.Histone acetylation/deacetylation alters chromosome structure andaffects transcription factor access to DNA. The protein encoded bythis gene belongs to class II of the histone deacetylase/acuc/aphafamily. It possesses histone deacetylase activity and repressestranscription when tethered to a promoter. This protein does notbind DNA directly, but through transcription factors MEF2C andMEF2D. It seems to interact in a multiprotein complex with RbAp48and HDAC3.
Titration of the HDAC4 antibody may be required due to differences in protocols and secondary/substrate sensitivity.
A portion of amino acids 1049-1077 from the human protein was used as the immunogen for this HDAC4 antibody.
Aliquot the HDAC4 antibody and store frozen at -20oC or colder.Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
